Hi, I’m Annette or more commonly known by my friends as Net. I still remember rocking up to my first CrossFit class. It was a lunchtime session, and I was incredibly nervous. From what you google on CrossFit it always looked daunting, super fit people with big muscles and six packs and I always thought it was super inclusive and not achievable for a mum of 3 like myself…. I left early that day to find the place and of course sat outside scared and feeling very overwhelmed. On seeing the big tractor size wheel outside I messaged my husband and told him I was nervous and wasn’t sure whether CrossFit was really for me, anyone that knows my husband will know he told me to get my butt inside and do it as I’ll never know if I don’t try so that’s what I did. I was met by the coach who made me feel at ease and we warmed up and talked through the WOD (WORKOUT OF THE DAY).
What I loved about the class and the space was that there was no fancy equipment it wasn’t complicated, the people were friendly and there was lots of fist pumps and high fives after the WOD was done. Although I did hit my nose with a 15kg barbell during the workout, (a lesson I learnt very quickly to move my head out the way when doing a push press). After the class was done, I instantly signed up and I knew that CrossFit was for me and in all honesty I haven’t looked back. The feeling of community with the other members, the support, laughter and amazing coaching I received made me fall in love with the sport. My one regret is not plucking up the courage to try it sooner.
